Integrity is the Loudest Sermon
STORY
My friend Don mentored me while I was raising teenage sons. When his own son reached his 20s, Don humbly disclosed something embarrassing from his life before marriage.
“Do you think less of me?” Don asked.
“No way, Dad. Just the opposite. You’ve always been honest and real with us. That’s what I respect so much.”
Integrity includes owning where we’ve fallen short and making it right.
TRUTH
“In everything, set them an example by doing what is good.” — Titus 2:7
Your life preaches. Honesty, humble confession, and changed behavior help your words and actions match.
ACTION
Tell a core friend one place where your actions don’t match what you believe.
Ask God together for your next step. Apologize, make it right, or change a habit. Ask your friend to follow up this week.
TALK ABOUT IT
Ask your CORE: “Where do I need to close the gap between what I say and how I live?”
Help each other name one step. Pray for courage to take it.
GO DEEPER — LET YOUR LIFE MATCH YOUR MESSAGE
Mature leaders know integrity is more than avoiding obvious failure. It is closing the gap between what we believe, what we say, and how we actually live.
Ask a trusted friend where he sees inconsistency in you that you may be missing.
Be quick to confess without defending or minimizing.
Make repair part of integrity: apologize, restore trust, change the pattern.
Invite follow-up so your good intention becomes changed behavior.
Integrity grows when truth moves from conviction → confession → correction → consistency.
IMPACT MORE — MODEL HONESTY THAT MAKES HONESTY SAFE
Men are more likely to tell the truth when their leaders do. Don’t teach integrity only by giving principles. Model it by admitting mistakes, owning weakness, and showing what repentance and repair look like.
When a man opens up about failure, don’t shame him or rush past it. Help him ask:
What happened? → What do I need to own? → Who needs an apology or repair? → What needs to change? → Who will follow up?
Your credibility is not built by looking flawless. It is built by being truthful, humble, and willing to make things right.
